While so many people are struggling with monthly bills and are worried about job security, a tragic by product has been the drop off in donations experienced by the majority of the world’s charity organisations (much needed revenue that is vital to their survival).
One particular charity that is close to my heart is Cancer Research. Almost everyone of us knows of someone who has died from a cancer related illness and the reality is a lot of us will have a cancer related illness at some stage in the future.
While many individuals and families have stopped (or have reduced) donating money to charity over the last 12 months - fund raisers have had to become increasingly more innovative in their ideas to raise much needed funds to help keep their charities going.
Now to the point of this BLOG and associated Twitter account…
While many web users have curtailed the amount of money they donate to charity, they still buy products and subscribe to services on line. Whether those products and services be health, business, computer software, ring-tone, or even gaming related, many of these products and services are accessed by buyers via Google Ads or through links on Twitter.
9 times out of 10 behind these Google Ads and links on Twitter are what’s called a “Hop Link”. Hop Links are special URL’s that tag your sale and redirect a portion of the sale value to a middle man as commission (Generally the person whose advertised the Google Ad or Tweeted the Link you clicked in Twitter).
These middle men are called Affiliate Marketers’ and they are literally generating thousands of Dollars each month in commissions on the back of your transactions (Not just your initial outlay but very often also on your monthly subscriptions afterwards).
This is the norm and seen as accepted practice when doing business on the net and something that is generally unavoidable. But with Cancer Research in mind, I propose putting that big slice of commission to better use and redirecting it to charity.
Harnessing Web 2.0 media technology such as Twitter, Blogger, Tweetlater, Hootsuite and a couple of other tools, I am going to direct subscribers and followers to my own Hop Links from a Clickbank account I’ve recently opened (Clickbank is a transaction house that over sees literally millions of on line purchases each year). While the Clickbank account is in my name, all revenue cheques will be sent directly by Clickbank to a Cancer Research Charity GUARANTEED ( 0% of money comes to me).
The aim of this project is to turn Twitter into a fund raising conduit and hopefully in this current economic climate it will be greeted warmly.
